


The Trophy Bassmasters kicked off the 2025 fishing season at Lake Erie last weekend. The crazy weather this spring took a day off and greeted the anglers with calm seas and clear skies. The catch rates reflected the good weather day as the 18 anglers brought in 78 keeper bass of at least 14”. Total weight was 213.33lbs. All were released alive. Big winner for the day was Mike Johnson as he both won the tournament and had the big bass for the day. Johnson’s 5 bass limit of smallmouth weighed 19.53lbs. with the lunker at 5.66lbs. Don Ratcliff weighed in a 5 bass limit of largemouth for 2nd place. Ratcliff’s creel totaled 17.17lbs. A very close 3rd place was Boyd Downey. Downey had 5 bass that weighed 17.10lbs to claim the final spot on the podium.
