Sandusky Bay 7/5/25

Kelly Dearwester 1st Place and Big Bass, Boyd Downey 2nd Place, Bert Grubbs 3rd Place

The Trophy Bassmasters spent a very warm 4th of July weekend on Sandusky Bay. It took up to 60 lbs of ice to control the livewell temperature to keep the fish alive on such a hot day. The 8 anglers spent a long, hot 9 hours on the water and all club members were rewarded with a 5 bass limit of bass. Fishing was confined to Sandusky Bay only. The fishing was good. Bass are cold blooded, and their metabolism increases with warmer water temperatures. With surface temperatures around 80 degrees or more, the fish simply need to eat more often during this time.

Kelly Dearwester took 1st Place honors this trip for the first time this year. Kelly’s 13.8 lb catch and big bass of 4.36 earned this week’s trophy. Boyd Downey 2nd place with 11.59 lb. Bert Grubbs finished in 3rd place with 10.74 lb, narrowly edging out Terry Wymer.
