The 9th Trophy Bassmasters tournament took place on legendary Lake St Clair for the 2nd time this year. Smallmouth were in season and fish over 14 inches were weighed in at the Harley Ensign boat ramp. The weather cooperated again, and we were all treated to an exceptional good fishing day. No one reported catching a tagged bass.
A new group of leaders emerged on this second trip. Bert Grubbs, our tournament director, showed the way with his 5 bass limit with a net weight of 16.12 pounds. This time of year, it is extremely difficult to keep large smallmouth healthy due the the extreme heat. Chad Thrush his partner finished second with 5 bass that weighed 15.37 pounds. Kelly Dearwester rounded out the top 3 with a limit of bass at 15.35 pounds and a big bass of 4.5 pounds. As you can see weights were extremely close.
