5/3/26 Buckeye Lake

Bert Grubbs 1st Place, Boyd Downey 2nd Place and Big Bass, Kelly Dearwester 3rd Place

Trophy Bassmasters 4th points tournament of the year was a 20-year return to Buckeye Lake. Buckeye Lake Archives 6/11/2006 (20 years ago) After a disappointing catch it will likely be 20 years before we return.

The weather was another chilly one as has been the case for all of our tournaments this year. Even though the temperature started in the low 30s, the strong sunshine and low wind conditions in the morning made it feel like mid 40s. Water temps were in the low 50s to start the day. The tough conditions discouraged most members from attending.

Only 6 members braved the cold to compete in our return to Buckeye Lake with the smallest catch we have had in years. Only 7 fish were caught with a big bass of 2.46 pounds.

Bert Grubbs led the anglers with 3 bass that weighed 4.56 pounds. Boyd Downey had a single bass that weighed 2.46 pounds to win big bass and 2nd place. Kelly Dearwester caught 2 to round out the top 3 spots.

With so many anglers passing on this tournament the AOY race has changed again. Kelly Dearwester is leading the race with Bert Grubbs a close 2nd and John Massara in 3rd place. This shake up is only temporary since we have yet to complete 9 tournaments. When all active members have completed their 9th tournament the race usually tightens up considerably.
