Trophy Bassmasters traveled to Lake Erie to fish the 16th club points tournament of the year. The weather cooperated with south and west winds to allow fishing the nearby Bass and Kelley’s Islands, however, the smallmouth did not dominate the results. Water temperatures in the mid to upper 70s kept the smallmouth deep and scattered as is typical this time of the year.
Boyd Downey “Mr August” returned to his winning ways this time of the year to collect the first-place trophy. Don Ratcliff held on for 2nd place. Dave Wedertz made a last-minute surprise visit to take 3rd place. Dave Morlock caught 1 smallmouth to take big bass honors @ 3.84 lbs. (Bill Van Atta fished as a guest and caught the largest bass @ 4.56 lbs)
